Jump Start Grab & Go Breakfast Challenge
25 local culinary students from 8 secondary schools on Oahu and Neighbor Islands competed in the inaugural Jump Start Grab & Go Breakfast Challenge. They developed and presented their own recipes for grab-and-go school breakfast items. Each entry had to be nutritious, tasty, portable, and simple to freeze and reheat in school cafeterias. They also got bonus points for using local ingredients!
Contest judges for the Jump Start Grab & Go Breakfast Challenge included First Lady Dawn Amano-Ige, La Tour Bakehouse Chef Chris Okuhara, Honolulu Family Magazine Managing Editor Cathy Cruz-George and YMCA Youth Governor Krysta Reese. Learn about the winning recipes here.

Legislators: Eat breakfast at a school during the month of March
Join First Lady Dawn Ige and Marcus Mariota to Jump Start Breakfast! During the month of March, contact a school in your district to see if you can join them for breakfast, especially during Harvest of the Month day! Post your school breakfast picture on social media, using #jumpstartbreakfast. We’re counting on you!
Congratulations to First Lady Dawn Ige for being honored by No Kid Hungry as a School Breakfast Hall of Fame member.
NKH held its second annual school breakfast hero contest, with the winners being announced during National School Breakfast Week. Five breakfast heroes were chosen by NKH, along with several hall of fame members, of which Mrs. Ige was selected. This is another exciting recognition of Mrs. Ige and her leadership in Hawaii’s school breakfast expansion efforts. NKH Breakfast Hall of Fame
